Novel writing software programs are a great resource for helping you turn your initial story ideas into a well-written, compelling novel.
The biggest advantage of the three I review below is that they will help you discover where you want to go with your novel and who your characters are so that when you sit down to write the whole process is much easier and more effective. Each of these programs offer you a variety of different tools and advantages.
The key is to find what works best for you. Numerous writers have used this program to write a variety of popular published novels. One of the strengths of this software is that it provides specific step-by-step guidance about how best to write a novel in a specific genre , i.
It guides you through structuring your novel using the suspense-building tactic of strategically revealing your story from multiple points of view.
Marshall developed this program at the request of readers so they would have an easy way to apply the suggested techniques from his best-selling Marshall Plan for Novel Writing book series.

SlushPile Hell. There is also an extensive list of Character Names and meanings. Minor Complaints The software feels unfinished to me for several small reasons, and one large one.
The small ones first:. The Worst Offender One of the earliest, and most important steps of planning your novel with this software is when you pick the overall length you are going to aim for. To be fair, the software does provide a warning. What does this mean in practice? It means that once you set a word length, the program will create a list of Action and Reaction Scenes and tell you which ones need to be from a certain viewpoint character and which you can choose the point of view.
It will also dedicate space for you to write notes about what will happen in each of those sections. But if in the course of writing—or even outlining—you discover that this is really panning out to be more of a 70K novel than the 90K novel you thought your idea would support, you have two choices:. To me, either option seems like a lot of wasted time that would be better spent writing that first draft. To me, this would be a dealkiller even if the program cost less than a Happy Meal.
Wrapup I started evaluating this program from a very positive and hopeful place. I like The Marshall Plan books and I was excited about getting a copy of the software to try.
In the end, I wanted to give a better review than I was able to. There are just too many better values currently available in the marketplace, at a fraction of the cost.
His fiction has appeared in the Stoker-winning anthology Borderlands 5 , Origins Award finalist Frontier Cthulhu , and dozens of other publications. Giving up office politics and pantyhose was simple. I did find that being a writer isn't all cream cheese Danish and bunny slippers. It requires a strong sense of discipline. You have to set your hours, stick to a schedule and make others respect it.
You also have to stay away form the Oreo's and morning talk shows. View my complete profile. Author Interviews Barbara Youree. Article of the Day. Article of the Day provided by The Free Dictionary.
