I was changing things and using Apply and sometimes apply seemed to work and sometimes it didn't and then 'all of a sudden' the problem was solved. It might have been unchecking override document colors, but I can't get that toggle to consistently have the same effect on the puzzle object.

No, forget 4, that's common knowledge. I just wasn't paying attention. You can search for the desktop. Go to "Folder Options", "View" and check uncheck depending on the current condition "Always show icons, never thumbnails" - it should solve the issue.
I've found it after trying everything else :. I had the same issue and changing it from thumbnail to icon worked. But then my picture thumbnails showed up as the icon, rather than the picture's thumbnail. So I changed it back and I have the black pdf icons all over my desktop again. Is there not a fix that will address the desktop separate from the picture library? I had the same problem as Saintly Jim. This seems to have fixed both the black icon and displaying picture thumbnail issues.
Tod M. My files turned black yesterday. Still black today. Then turned back to original without my doing anything. Above solution isn't a fix, it's more a work arround! As some user already wrote, changing folders view settings from thumbnails to icons will ''fix'' the PDF folders issue but will also affect all the other folders such as pictures in which thumbnails will be no longer available as well The Editor can be installed from the following link:.
